Where does the Mississippi river get its water from?

The source of the Mississippi is Lake Itasca in Minnesota.  As the Mississippi flows to the Gulf of Mexico, it receives runoff from cities, along with industrial and municipal waste discharge.  The Mississippi also receives water supply from everyday rain.
