Australia recently signed its “biggest ever export agreement” to sell China 30 million tons of coal over the next 20 years. Vietnam has historically been the largest provider of coal to China.
Note that this is 30 million tons per year for 20 years. Also note that this big deal amounts to less than 1% of China’s coal consumption annually (as of 2009).
China gets most of its coal from China. It became a net importer quite recently, and while imports are increasing, China was a net exporter as recently as 2008.
