Where does China get all of their coal that they burn?

Until 2009 China was a net exporter of coal; they produced more than they consumed (production in 2009 = 3.36 billion tons, consumption = 3.08 billion tons). Now as an importer, it is still relatively small amounts that they import; they recently did a deal with Australia to import 30 million tons a year – the article calls that “huge” but it is less than 1% of China’s coal consumption.

If you meant where in China does China’s coal produciton come from, there is some in much of China but the richest deposits are in the far northwest and in the north and north central areas. See map here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_power_in_China
