Common household bleach is usually a chemical solution, sodium hypochlorite. It was first created in France in 1789, by “passing chlorine gas through a solution of sodium carbonate. Many different processes have been tried for commercial production, and today it is made via the “Hooker process.” “Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is formed when chlorine is passed into a cold and diluted sodium hydroxide solution.”
