Conventional fossil fuel energy is drilled from beneath the earth. Over thousands of years since the beginning of the earth, organic matter has decayed and been covered up and compressed by new living matter that grows above it. Over time the pressure and temperature on this organic matter turns it in to oil that can be refined in to products like the gasoline we use in our cars. Renewable energy like solar energy comes from the sun, wind energy from the wind, tidal energy from waves, and hydroelectic power from the force of running water.
