Timber rattlers get their name from their habitat. They enjoy secluded areas with trees and rugged landscapes. They live in the timber, as it were. Pregnant females prefer rocky ledges and open spaces, so they can warm themselves. Non-pregnant females and male timber rattlers prefer covered, cooler forest areas where the trees are thicker.
