State wildlife agencies often get funding from private foundations and programs. The majority of the funding usually comes from state lotto sales as well as fishing and hunting license sales. Big game stamps sales also help with funding.
State Fish and Wildlife agencies just got a boost of Federal funding from the Interior, Environmental and Related Agencies Appropriation Act for 2010. This added an additional 15 million dollars on top of what they have received in the past and i known to be one of the biggest contributers to funding for these agencies.
State wildlife agencies are typically funded by the federal and/or state government. They may also gain income from selling permits for collection of animals or for hunting and fishing. Some agencies seek grants to help fund special research projects or educational programs. They also have volunteers and interns that assist with some programs and aspects of running the office.
