Flash floods are most likely to occur in regions with a) slow-moving thunderstorms; b) thunderstorms repeatedly moving over the same area; or c) heavy rains from hurricanes and tropical storms. Less rainfall is required to produce flash flooding in urban areas.
National Weather Service (NWS) River Forecast Centers routinely issue Flash Flood Guidance throughout the day for every county in their area.
