where do glaciers go?

If glaciers melt, they will melt into the nearest body of water, normally the ocean.  Glaciers on mountains, however, will melt into rivers, which is why rivers in mountainous areas are often swollen and cold during the spring time.  Glaciers have normally been repacked and frozen as snow builds up over the winter, however shifting weather patterns and increased glacier melt has caused places like Mt. Kilimanjaro to lose significant portions of glacier coverage.  The picture below shows the glacier in 1993 (left) and then in 2000 (right).
