Pet foods have long been chock full of unhealthy, low-grade ingredients. Therefore you must learn what these “code word” ingredients mean. For instance, lamb digest may include diseased or euthanized animals. This is one to avoid. Chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols) is considered a naturally preserved ingredient and is good. The worst ingredients to avoid at all costs are by-products of any kind. THEY ARE NOT MEAT. They are actually bits and pieces of animals, parts no dog or cat would naturally eat. But to keep costs to a minimum, by-products are often used.
