Where do Congress members get their scientific evidence? Are some sources generally agreed upon as being more valid?

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which came out with the report that earned it, along with Al Gore, the Nobel Peace Prize, was the organization that finally convinced President Bush to say that global warming is indeed happening and that humans have contributed to its severity. There are perhaps other sources available but the IPCC reports are put together by the worlds leading climate scientists and packaged in such a way that policy makers are able to make informed decisions. The panel was originally created by the United Nations and the World Meteorological Organization.

It depends. Some use results from rather suspect sources, and there aren’t huge standards on the issue. Things that are sponsored by the UN or the aggregate results of several sources are generally considered to be more reliable in the academic and political communities at large though.
