According to scientists, ancestors of what we now refer to as the “modern camel” were habitants of North America as many as 40 million years ago. It is believed that these animals migrated across the Bering Strait land bridge to Asia during the Pleistocene period. All camels eventually died out in North America and from Asia, these animals went on eastern Europe, the middle east, and North Africa.
