In Lockport, NY near Niagra Falls. The cooling system relies primarily on outside air, preventing the need for a more traditional, power-hungry cooling system. The IT gear will run mostly on hydro power. The U.S. Dept of Energy helped Yahoo fund building of the center through a $9.9 million grant. However, outside air during the warmer months is not going to be efficient enough to cool their machines, so they will need to rely on an evaporative cooling system part of the year. Yahoo says it’s their greenest data center as of yet.
