The wild horses of the west came from Spain and most can be traced through genetic origin to Iberian Horses.  These horses were brought over with the Conquistadors.  Some horses were either released or stolen by Native Americans and take all over the western part of America.  Today, the modern wild horse is termed a mustang and is a symbol of the American Frontier lifestyle.
