Where did the asteroid belt come from?

Although we don’t know for sure, the two theories are that A) they are fragments of a destroyed planet, or B) they are rocks that were not able to form into a planet because of the interference of Jupiter’s gravitational field.

The asteroid belt, jbenjami28, is a composition of asteroid ranging in size from a few inches to hundreds of miles in diameter. While nobody can say for sure, numerous minds agree that the Big Bang sent a lot of these precious metals and elements comprising the belt into place, with gravity and angular momentum doing the rest. Hope I helped, and have a green day!
