The five-lined skink (Eumeces fasciatus) has a large range in the eastern U.S. Exposed habitats with damp leaves and other debris are their favorite habitat. The broad-headed skink (E. laticeps) shares range with the fine-lined variety. There is also a great plains skink found in western prairies, and a four-lined species in Texas. Ground skinks (Leiolopisma laterale) lives throughout the Southwest, while the rare sand skink (Neoseps reynoldsi) is found in two small pockets of Florida.
