Think of places in your area that might produce scrap wood. A high school shop class? A lumber yard? A home improvement store? I’ve actually had mixed success with chain home supply stores like Lowes and Home Depot. Sometimes they’re happy to give you leftovers, but sometimes they cite some rule that says they can’t… Local, small business home supply/hardware stores are a better bet. Or the local high school’s shop teacher. He/She might be able to give you some or point you in a better direction.
