There are many stores that carry some beauty products that are green and environmentall conscious. Many of the leading brands of beauty products have a line of products that are green.
LUSH sells various products ranging from handmade soap to fragrances. The products are made by hand and contain little or no preservatives. They also do their best to limit packaging. Here’s a link to their site: http://www.lushusa.com/shop
Also, The Green Guide’s Buying Guide has a Personal Care section that gives great product recommendations as well as product comparisons and information.
Here’s a link to the Buying Guide:
Within the Buying Guide, you should find links to sites where you can purchase some of the products.
I recommend reading this before you purchase cosmetics:
Many companies try to market their products as green, but if they contain harmful ingredients, such as formaldehyde or fragrance, it’s best to avoid them. Always check the ingredients!
If you are looking for makeup, big brand stores are starting to catch on to more natural and organic products-like sephora, mac, etc. But, before reaching for those I recommend the brand Futureline. They have multiple lines and produts range from skin care to make up and fragrances. The company goes beyond just having natural and organic ingredients-they also look at the social impacts and other environmental impacts like packaging.
Health food stores like Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and a host of locally owned stores carry a selection of beauty products that have typically been screened for sustainability. Don’t rely on the store though, do your own reserch and check the ingredients before buying. There are a variety of resources to help you understand what ingredients are sustainable and non-toxic vs. their opposites.
Pharmaca is great place to get green beauty supplies. Credentialed pharmacists, naturopathic doctors, nutritionists, and herbalists work together to create a great team. They focus on natural products, (including make-up), holistic and alternative remedies, as well as over-the-counter medications. They also have a sustainability policy: their stores have recycled carpeting, wind power offsets and offer sustainable, organically produced goods. The link below connects you to the site, you can find a store near you or order online.
Like it was stated before, you can find some green beauty supplies at local stores like Whole Foods or department stores like Sephora. However, via online I recommend visiting Everyday Minerals. It’s a brand I’ve used before and it’s quite affordable and works pretty decent. Also, Future Natural and Saffron Rouge are also two recommend sties to buy green products from. Hope that helps.
