No rail-to-trails program has ever been confirmed as being the biggest in the world. However, the longest paved recreational trail that was previously a railroad is believed to be the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, in Idaho. It is 73 miles long, and its claim to be the world’s longest rail trail has yet to be challenged.
