There are a bunch of great whal watching locations in the western hemishphere. During the winter, Kona and Maui, Hawaii are great places to go for whale watching. During the summer, Vancouver Island, Canada is awesome if you want to see killer whales. Surprisingly, Massachusettes offers one of the best places in the world to see finbacks around Cape Cod during the summer.
My personal favorite is Lime Kiln Point State Park on San Juan Island. The three killer whale pods regularly travel through the strait that the park overlooks. There are amazing places to set up a hammock on a cliff and watch these amazing creatures. There are also tons of porpoises and seals that frequent these waters. Another one of my favorites is First Street on the island of Maui. You can literally sit in a cute little local burger joint and watch the humpback whales during breeding season. Pretty amazing.
