There are large porphyry copper deposits in the southwestern United States, Canada and Peru to name a few locations.
The greatest production of copper in the world (more than a third of the total) comes from Chile, and has for decades. The US is a net importer of copper; in recent years 25% to 40% of US copper consumption has been imported.
