In the United States, it may be more prudent to ask *when* flash floods are most common. Most of the United States’ towns and cities have the opportunity to experience flash floods. There are particular times when these floods are most common. These times are “after spring rains, heavy thunderstorms or winter snow thaws.”
Flash floods are actually one of the most dangerous natural disasters. They come quickly, leaving people little time to prepare, and result in large amounts of water and strong currents. Areas that are most susceptible to flash floods are at lower elevations, and around dry creek beds, streams, and gullies. Theoretically, however, they could happen anywhere at any time, and it is important to heed all flood warnings.
