Chimpanzees are found in savanna woodlands, grassland-forest mosaics and tropical moist forests, ranging from sea level to 3,000 metres in elevation. Chimpanzees used to range across equatorial Africa, from southern Senegal, across north of the Congo River to Western Uganda and Tanzania. Most of the remaining populations exist in Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Cameroon.
