There are about 200 different species of anglerfish, that live throughout the world’s oceans. National Geographic mentions the Antarctic and Atlantic oceans specifically, but they are also a popular catch off the coast of Japan. They typically live in very deep, dark waters, up to a mile below the surface, although some live in shallow water as well.
The angler fish is native worldwide. They prefer tropical habitats, but can live in the deep sea as well. There are more then 200 species of the fish. Most of these species live in Atlantic and Antarctic oceans. They can range from a few inches long to over three feet.
