Where and when was the grape domesticated?

One can hardly talk about the domestication of the grape without talking about wine.  The grape has strong ties with the expanding cultures of humans and dates back to the beginning of civilization.  It appears as though differences between the current grapes and those of old are more due to humans then geographical reasons.  During this process higher sugar content was insured to further the fermentation process.  It appears that this happened in the Near East in the Neolithic period.
