If you are dehydrated, you must re-hydrate yourself by regaining the 2 to 3 liters of fluid per day that the average adult needs. There is no specific amount of time it takes, but if one feels dry mouth, muscle cramps, nausea and vomiting, of lightheadedness, then they are dehydrated and should continue drinking fluids. Things to take when one is dehydrated include water, popsicles, jell-o, clear broths, and fluids that contain electrolytes, like Gatorade. Dehydration is caused when much more water is leaving the body than that being taken in, losing water from sweating, urinating, or viruses that cause vomiting/diarrhea. The best treatment is prevention, so it is important to keep hydrated every day.
