The Ogallala aquifer spans over parts of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. We are using water at a faster rate than the aquifer is replenished. Some experts believe it will dry up in as little as 25 years though it is likely to last longer, depending on our future water use.
