When will LED lights be affordable enough for homes?

General Electric recently announced the release of their Energy Smart LED light bulb, which is designed to replace traditional incandescent bulbs. Each bulb sells for $50, which sounds pricey but its long lifespan and energy efficiency promise a return on investment. The bulbs will hit shelves in January 2011. New technology is always expensive at first, especially since primary producers have a virtual monopoly on the market. But, recent tests show the light bulb can have a lifespan of 22.8 years, Sounds like a deal to me.
