As of an article published yesterday (April 22, 2010) the FDA has not made any solid plan to mandate a maximum level of salt in prepared foods. While they do acknowledge an overconsumption my most Americans and desire to reduce sodium intake for health reasons, there is not a set deadline for a reduction in salt. This article does talk about the fact that they are in talks with major food manufacturers to do a voluntary salt reduction, and you can see that more “low sodium” (or is it really, appropriate ammounts of sodium) foods are coming on the market.
