I’d say it already is. Also, when governmental entities stop picking the winners and losers, as they do with oil and ethanol in the US, for example, I expect it to become even more widespread. There is currently a 54 cent per gallon tariff on ethanol that is imported to the US while there is a 45 cent per gallon tax credit for ethanol. In other words, you are strongly discouraged from buying ethanol…unless it is made in the USA. Also, there is no tariff on importing oil to the USA. Remember that when you hear the moaning and groaning on TV about gas prices being too high.
