When were toilets invented?

Toilets have been dated back to the ancient times, the modern toilet as we know it can be traced back to the 16th century, where Sir John Harrington described a waste disposal system in the Metamorphosis of Ajax. It has been said that Thomas Crapper patented the flush toilet in 1861, but there has been evidence to prove otherwise.

It is safe to say that toilets have been around since the ancient times, and that the modern flush toilet has been around since the late 1800’s.
