When were cassettes first made?

The Dutch company Philips first came out with the cassette in 1963. They were introduced one year later in America. Cassettes were originally intended to make recording interviews and information and such easier for journalists who were struggling to keep up with the pace of news, but music cassettes were the norm by 1965.
