When was the umbrella invented?

There has been evidence that a basic umbrella was invented over four thousand years ago in Egypt, Assyria, Greece, and China. These ancient umbrellas or parasols were created to provide shade from the sun. The Chinese were the first to waterproof their umbrellas by waxing and lacquering their paper parasols for rain protection.
