Alexander Graham Bell patented the precursor to the modern telephone in 1875, but several others were working on or had already developed primitive telephone models by that point.
After a legal battle in the 1870’s between Alexandar Graham Bell and Elysia Gray, Bell came out on top and is known as the inventor of the first telephone on February 14, 1876.
