In 1905, due to the heavy rainfall and snowmelt; which made the Colorado river swell caused the creation of salton sea. The flood poured down the canal and breached the imperial velley dike, eroding two watercourses, the new river in the west, and the alamo river in the each, each about 60 miles long. Over a period of two years these two newly created rivers carried the entire volume of the Colorado river in to the salton sea. Continuing of the flooding from the imperial valley from the Colorado river in 1922 lead to a creation of a dam that helped controlled the salton sea.
