Who’s idea was it?
Mount Rushmore was constructed between the years of 1927 and 1941. It was finished on October 31, 1941.
Doane Robinson had the idea to carve Mt. Rushmore in 1923. In 1924, the site was picked out from among others as the ideal spot for the rock presidents. Carving work began on October 4, 1927. Washington was finished in 1934, Jefferson was dedicated in 1936, Lincoln in 1937, and Roosevelt in 1939. It was officially finished in 1941, when the finishing touches and little details were completed.
The idea was conceived in 1923 to increase tourism in South Dakota. Construction lasted from 1927 to 1941.
