The first documented US kidney transplant was performed on June 17, 1950. The patient was a 44-year-old woman who had polycystic kidney disease. The surgery was done in Evergreen Park, Illinois. Although the surgery was unsuccessful, in 1954, successful procedures were performed in both Boston and Paris.
