    The first successful heart transplant in America was on December 6, 1967 in Brookly, New York.  It happened three days after the first ever human heart transplant in Cape Town, South Africa.

    The first heart transplant in the WORLD was in South Africa in 1967, and the patient lived for 18 days following the procedure but soon after died of lung infection. The first heart transplant performed in the US was done on January 6, 1968. The doctor performing the operation “found that one of the major dangers in heart transplants is the body’s tendency to reject a new heart, and all of his patients died only days after the operation.”
