When was the first flight into space?

    The first rocket into space was a German V-2 rocket built in 1944, during World War II.  Russia sent a dog named “Kaika” into space during their Sputnik Program, which began in 1957, and the first man into space was Yuri Gagarin, a Russian, who orbited the earth with no control of the vessel on April 12, 1961.

    The first manned mission to space was on April 12, 1961.  Russian cosmonaut Yuri Garagin was the first man in space.  Not even a month later, American Alan Shepard because the second man and first American in space.  Human’s first scientific endeavor into space was in 1957, when we launched the artificial satellite Sputnik 1 into orbit.
