    DNA was discovered in 1953 by James Watson and Frances Crick.

    The discovery of DNA predates Watson and Crick. DNA was first isolated by a Swiss physicist named Friedrich Miescher in 1869 in the pus of discarded bandages.  James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the double-helix structure of DNA in 1953.
