As best as you can, you should try to keep all glass products unbroken for recycling. It’s not that broken glass can’t be recycled, but simply that it can be difficult to recover when sorting the recycling and therefore will be sent to the trash pile rather than taken further through the recycling process.
Think of it this way, the easier you make it for recycling centers to recycle your waste, the more likely your waste will be recycled properly. This doesn’t mean you should throw away broken glass, but simply that you should do your best to make recycling easy for the recycling center by ensuring your glass is not broken before it is sent for recycling.
