Parking Day was started by a group called “REBAR” based in San Francisco. This year, it was held on September 17th.
Park(ing) Day was just recently celebrated on September 17, 2010.
This is the fourth year in a row that Park(ing) Day has taken place, mostly in large U.S. cities like Los Angeles and New York City. Globablly, more cities joined in in the event this year such as Tehran and Paris.
The concept is to pay for a metered parking space and use the spot as a temporary public place.
The program was started by Rebar, a San Fransiscan art and design studio, in 2005.
