Because solar panels rely on the sun, they will not work when it’s raining. Even if they are sitting in shadow, it is likely they won’t work. As long as the sun is blocked, no energy will be produced.
Solar pannels use light to not heat, so they are always producing energy if it is light out. When it is cloudy, it is darker and there will be proportionately less power created, but they will still be working.
