Buy Nothing Day is usually celebrated the day after Thanksgiving in North America, and the day after that in the rest of the world (Nov 28 and 29 essentially. Some critics of the event claim that the day actually has no effect on consumerism because people who participate are simply deferring their purchases till a later date. Proponents, however, contend that by making people more aware of their purchases, they’ll buy less of what they don’t truly need.
