With the current technology, solar panels do have their downside. Mercury and chromium are two of the main problem metals that can come from a destroyed solar panel. The glue and PVC that are used to install the panels can also be a problem if a house were to burn down.
The most recent solar panels only contains a low percentage of cadmium; if burned, this can release toxic emissions, but in this case there would be a very small quantity, not dangerous for health and environment.
