You should drink around half a liter of water per mile. If you are going uphill or are in a very hot area, you should drink more than that. If you are unsure as to how much water to take, you should take at least four liters of water. Since each liter of water weighs around 2.2 pounds, it will be heavy, but at least you won’t be dehydrated.
Its safe to bring at least 2 liters of water when you are hiking, regardless of the distance or difficulty. 2 liters is also the recommended amount of water one should drink in a normal day.
