Although there doesn’t seem to be any data linking gas prices to engine size, there is research that shows that gas prices and fuel efficiency are related (fuel efficiency is a lot more tangible to the consumer as opposed to engine size). The higher the prices of gas, after a certain point, the more fuel-efficient cars are bought. Similarly, people will often buy smaller cars overall (as opposed to big trucks or SUVs) when gas prices rise past the point of larger vehicles being considered “worth it”.
