When did we switch from outhouses to indoor pluming?

There is not one moment in the switch. Plumbing and sewer systems had to be constructed over many years to effectively switch from the outhosue to the water closet. It was more than midway through the 19th century before young America would develop reasonably efficient water and sewage systems, and for the great invention of the water closet to make an appearance.
