Peak power has been a concern of the electrical utilities for some time. However, it is more recently a concern as utilities are using more sources that do not supply power on demand as well as traditional sources. For example, wind power cannot easily respond to a sudden increase in electrical demand without the use of newer and more expensive storage units like Vanadium Redox battery units. Until they are implemented, wind will not play a major role in the electrical infrastructure because of its inability to meet instantaneous demand.
