The history of the washing machine dates as far back as the late 1700s, when manual washing machines were invented. The first automatic washing machine was invented in 1947, and from there, other companies manufactured competitive washing machines on the market. That would mean that automatic washing machines were commonplace around the 1950s. Electric washing machines that were not automatic were in 60% of the wired electric houses by 1940.
